This product is a replacement for Kobelt Model 7020 Safety and Bypass Valve. If using as a replacement for a Kobelt 7020, ensure you have (-10 to -08 orb) adaptors. Safety and by-pass valve protects steering gear system from over pressurising. This valve also incorporate by-pass function. This is very useful for bleeding the system. It is recommended to be installed close to hydraulic actuator. Both relief cartridge should be set at 1.25 times the hydraulic working pressure. All valves can be set at factory as customer request. If it is not specified at the time of ordering it will be set at 1,500 psi.

The purpose of a header tank is to allow for the steering gear fluid to expand and contract due to temperature variations. The header tank can be used on a manualfilled system as well as on an auto-filled system. The capacity of this tank is one quart (one litre). It is available with or without sight glass and breather. It is recommended to have this tank installed above the highest helm pump onboard ship. In addition, a manual-filled system should be installed with a breather or an auto-filled system should be sealed with a vent line going from the header to the main tank.
AED2005.00
This valve is intended to be used in power steering systems. Its purpose is to retain all of the hydraulic fluid in the steering system itself when the power-driven hydraulic pumps are not operational, so as to allow the use of the helm pump without loss of hydraulic fluid. All hydraulic valves, because of their mechanical fit tolerances, lose fluid in various amounts at some seals and joints. Consequently this would cause the hydraulic fluid to drain from the highest level to the lowest level. In most cases, the helm pump is located in the wheelhouse which is well above the main hydraulic tank. The oil will eventually drain back to the main tank thus leaving the manual steering system run dry. The 7243 valve, however, will retain all of the fluid in the system and will allow the helm pump to be used almost indefinitely in an emergency condition. If this unit is used with a 7147 or 7148 Kobelt Power Assist Unit, it is important to have a buffer system in order to get these units to shift to manual mode. If the 7243 is installed on the servo steering system, all helm pumps must have a non-vented plug. The header tank must also be sealed (non-vented). The return line from the header tank must go directly to the main tank. The flow controls supplying oil to the header tank must be opened far enough to allow all the pressure from the hydraulic system to vent via the header tank back to the main tank. However, if the flow control is too widely opened the header tank will be pressurized and could cause possible damage to the sight glass or cause leakage between the tank and the cover. A minimum amount of oil should pass through the flow controls, yet has to be sufficient enough to allow the pressure to drop off in the system.

unit is ideally suited for many marine and industrial applications such as bow thruster, steering gear and winch control, as well as the control of hydraulic servo devices and even C.P. propulsion and throttle controls. Operation of the lever moves the potentiometer and also contacts a make and break micro-switch in the mid-position. The potentiometer can be customer installed or factory supplied. Various potentiometers and gear ratios are available to suit customer requirements. The unit is available in either spring return to mid-position or neutral detent. In neutral detent style the lever can be left in any position. The unit is compact and all components are made in bronze or stainless steel which will give years of trouble-free service.
AED3536.00
This jog lever is a robust all metal cast bronze construction with stainless steel hardware to provide a long service life in a marine environment. With the watertight shaft seal and above panel sealed mounting, this unit can be located anywhere on the boat. The 4” (100 mm) long handle is a spring-return to center device to provide Non Follow-Up two speed steering control. Move the handle 30 degrees to engage the first micro switch to activate a solenoid valve and continue to move the handle another 25 degrees to engage the second micro switch to activate another solenoid valve. One solenoid valve would provide a normal rudder speed for course holding, two solenoid valves provide a fast rudder speed for maneuvering. Releasing the handle will cause the steering gear to stop. The handle springs back to center and the steering gear stays in the last position and does not move until you operate the jog lever. For a trouble free long life operation, an internal extension spring was incorporated rather than the normal torsional spring. The jog lever has four 10A micro switches wired N.O. (normally open). See instructions for full details. Two steering (directional control) solenoid valves are required, a rudder feedback unit with limits switches is recommend, but a steering amplifier is not required. The two-speed jog lever can be used in other marine applications or industrial installations that require rising, lowering, or left and right motion control. For example, move the handle to the first micro switch to activate a power unit and continue to move the handle to activate the motion control. Voltage: 12 or 24 VDC or 120 AC Net weight: 4.0 lbs. (1.8 Kg) Dimensions: 4.3” x 4.3” (109 x109 mm)

The Model 7171 Full Follow-Up Control Lever is designed for a Full Follow-Up Rudder Control system. It is intended to be used in the hydraulic power system for positioning the rudder proportionate to lever movement. A feedback unit is required on the rudder stock with an electronic interface to make this system functional. On many request by our customers to provide a jog lever that is spring returned to midposition with double micro-switches (2 per side), the 7171 unit is capable of providing with these features. The 7171 Control Lever is available with many options. It is equipped to carry 2 potentiometers, 2 trim pots and 2 microswitches, with a neutral detent, and the lever will stay in a given position. Made in bronze and stainless steel, it will offer many years of outdoor service on a ship or boat.

Like the Model 7171, the 7171-SW Control is a full follow-up rudder control. This model can be used as a main electronic control station and is ideally suited for high speed craft. When equipped with two potentiometers, it could be used for catamaran steering with split electronic rudder demand, allowing the rudders to move simultaneously and always remain synchronized. It can also be used for conventional craft with one potentiometer for rudder positioning. A second potentiometer could be used to show rudder demand. The star wheel can be equipped with push buttons or switches at the end of the grips for special applications.
AED7464.00
This dual mode combination single lever is Kobelt’s latest development in providing Full Follow Up rudder control with a jog steering as the secondary control. The 7197 is intended for electric over hydraulic steering systems. To complete the systems, a 7173-K steering amplifier, a steering (directional control) solenoid valve and rudder feedback unit complete with potentiometers and limit switches is required. For systems with more than one station, a transfer box and station selector switches at each station are also needed. Operating the FFU lever controller will activate the amplifier and cause the steering hydraulic steering gear to move in the desired direction. When the handle is released, the FFU lever stays in that position and the steering gear will continue to move (“FOLLOW UP”) until it reaches that preferred position, at which point the amplifier will de-activate the solenoid and the steering gear stops and holds in that position. In the event a problem occurs with the steering amplifier or the rudder feed back unit, you can switch to jog steering (non-follow up) mode. Whilst in this mode, steering can be achieved by pushing the lever hard over against the enclosed spring. Releasing the handle will cause the lever to spring back about five degrees; the steering gear stops and does not move until you operate the jog lever again. The standard 7197 comes with one potentiometer and two switches. Up to three potentiometers and two limit switches are available. Other optional items such as a 7180 (2-1/8” diameter) indicator or mode selector switches and/or station transfer switches can be added. The controller (with the exception of switches and potentiometers) is constructed entirely of die cast bronze complemented by stainless steel hardware for longevity in a marine environment.

This unit is basically designed for electronic steering gear applications. It could, however, be used for many other purposes. It provides 2 2/3 turns from hardover to hardover and is equipped with a single potentiometer (standard is 1K pot). The shaft is machined with a standard ¾” taper. The unit is manufactured in bronze and stainless steel which will provide years of trouble-free service. It can easily be integrated with other Kobelt’s electronic and hydraulic steering components to complete the steering system. The wheel to be used with this helm should be limited to a maximum of 18 inches (450 mm) for optimum performance. Note: an oversized steering wheel can damage this unit which is an electronic helm.

The Model 7172’s basic purpose is to provide an electronic signal to the hydraulic steering gear for positioning of the rudder. Normally the 7172 is equipped with two potentiometers: The first potentiometer will be used with an interface such as Model 7173-K to move the rudder in either port or starboard direction. When used in conjunction with our 7168 or 7174 feedback unit, the 7172 could provide precise rudder positioning. The second potentiometer can be used to indicate rudder demand while the actual rudder position is fed back via the 7168 or 7174 to separate rudder angle indicator. The construction of our 7172 is all bronze and stainless steel and is designed to give years of trouble-free service. Straight ahead detent is provided. The wheel has approximately three turns from hardover to hardover giving a comfortable range of control. The heavy duty construction allows the helmsman to hang on to the wheel in the roughest weather without causing any damage to this unit.

This unit is designed to accept the command signal from our Models 6657, 7165, 7166, 7167, 7169, 7171, 7172, 7176, 7196 7197 and 7198 and coordinates the desired rudder position with our feedback unit Models 7168 or 7174. Fluid flow control Models 7144, 7145 and 7148 are equipped with solenoid valves and, when activated by the Model 7173-KAS, will disperse hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic steering system to maintain the desired position. The device can be located anywhere aboard ship, even in the steering compartment, since its watertight and non-corrosive enclosure will protect the internal electronics from the effect of the environment. The Model 7173-KAS is a multi-optional driver board on 12- or 24-Volt DC. In the event of feedback potentiometer failure or wire break, the board will act in fail-in mode. An LED light will be ON and the alarm output is active for monitoring control or feedback potentiometer failure or wire break. Also the 7173-KAS provides a pump on demand pilot signal (12 or 24 VDC) that can control a relay/contactor to energize the pump whenever any directional solenoid is activated; therefore, the pump is not continuously running. Several options can be provided for • Single speed steering system • Dual speed steering system • Single speed catamaran steering system (electronic tie bar) • Two independent single speed steering system (steering/bucket)

The main cylinder bore is 2½” and the piston rod is made of 1” chromed stainless steel. Rated at a maximum operating pressure of 1500 psi, they are currently only available in a balanced cylinder configuration. When a single cylinder is not sufficient to provide the required rudder torque, they can be installed in a twin cylinder configuration whereby the 7065-S would serve as a master with a second cylinder of the same stroke. These cylinders provide simplicity in installation, effortless control and years of trouble-free service due to their design and construction. Design pressure: 1500 psi Refer to Model 7065 for other technical information.

These cylinders are constructed entirely in bronze and stainless steel. They are available in a balanced or unbalanced configuration. If a single cylinder is not sufficient to provide the required rudder torque, it can be installed in a twin cylinder configuration whereby two plain cylinders can be installed with some means of synchronization control or using one servocylinder, our Model 7085-S acting as a master of the duo. The 7085 cylinder is rated at a design pressure of 1000 psi (69 bar) and is available in many stock lengths. The cylinder bore is 3½” and the piston rod is 1½” in diameter. These cylinders are economically priced and will outperform any other product in the market place as far as durability and savings are concerned.

The KOBELT expansion tank is die cast in bronze and is very durable in the marine environment.

The 7147 Full Power Follow-up steering system is primarily designed for boats up to 120 ft in length, depending on power and speed. The unit is designed to provide the helmsman to operate the rudder effortlessly and with complete control. Its function is to turn manual steering into power steering which will provide the operator with fingertip control over the rudder. A source of hydraulic pressure is required to make this unit functional. It is capable of handling hydraulic fluid up to 8 gallons per minutes at 1000 psi. Should however, the hydraulic power fail, the valve arrangement will switch this unit automatically to manual steering mode. Capable of handling a maximum rudder torque of 5,000 ft-lbs or 695 kg-m, the unit is available in 7½”, 10” and 12” strokes. The unit is constructed entirely in bronze and stainless steel which can endure well in the harsh marine environment for years of trouble-free service. This unit is an extremely compact device and provides the ultimate in simplicity as far as installation and maintenance is concerned. Since a full power follow up valve and servo cylinder is all incorporated on to the main cylinder, no additional linkage is required to make this unit work. This model can also be used in dual cylinder installations by simply adding one cylinder and two hoses to the system giving it an easy task to upgrade the existing manual hydraulic system to power steering
